What should the walkthrough review?
Walk the agreed scope rather than relying only on the appearance of the space. Note each outstanding item with a location and description. Separate incomplete contracted work from a new request. In a retail unit, fixtures supplied by the tenant may be a separate responsibility from the constructed shell and finishes.
Which records should be collected?
Collect the current drawings available under the agreement, accepted changes, relevant inspection records and supplied product information. Name missing documents and who is obtaining them. The records should correspond to the actual installed work, with superseded information kept distinct from current instructions.
Does finishing the work establish occupancy permission?
No. Check the property’s approval requirements independently. Mississauga states that a Zoning Certificate of Occupancy does not grant permission to construct or occupy a building in its certificate guidance. Use the approval guide to identify the relevant authority for the project.
How do phased projects hand over?
Record the boundary of each phase, what users can access and which construction tasks continue. For occupied-building renovations, make those boundaries understandable to the property team as well as the contractor. Identify temporary arrangements that still need to be removed or completed.
How can a business use the checklist?
Use it during the initial scope discussion, then update it as decisions are made. This checklist is free to use and quote with credit to Cruzz Construction. Your agreement and the responsible authorities establish the documents and permissions actually required for the project.
