Home renovations and construction

What should you send for a construction quote?

A useful construction quote brief states where the project is, what you want changed and what information is already available. Include drawings or a sketch, photographs, intended use, product choices and access restrictions. Mark unresolved decisions clearly. This gives Cruzz Construction a starting point for reviewing the work and identifying what needs a site discussion.

What is the minimum useful project description?

Name the address or municipality, the property type and the outcome you need. Describe the existing condition and the proposed change separately. “Renovate the unit” leaves a great deal open; “create a reception area and three offices in the existing unit” gives the discussion a purpose. For tenant work, identify the landlord and possession stage.

Which drawings and photos help?

Send the current drawing issue if you have one, with any specifications that define the work. If there are no drawings, a labelled sketch and overall photos can start a conversation. Include the surroundings of a damaged area, not only a close-up. Avoid mixing superseded plans into the package without marking them.

How should you describe budget and dates?

State your budget preference and target dates as information to discuss. Explain whether the date relates to possession, an event, an opening or completion. Those are different milestones. List dependencies such as design decisions, landlord approval and products you are supplying. A date does not show whether those steps are ready.

What else should the brief make visible?

Identify occupied areas, loading routes and any work by others. For approval questions, use the permit guide; Hamilton publishes a separate building permit route for small businesses. Our comparison checklist helps you review the scope that comes back.

Can you reuse this checklist?

Yes. This project brief checklist is free to use and quote with credit to Cruzz Construction. It organizes a conversation; it does not replace drawings, a site review or the agreement for a particular project. Use the project request page when your information is ready.

Start with the drawings, or a call.

Send the drawing set and the dates for commercial work. For a home, the drawings or a sketch, a few photos and what you want built is enough to start.
